Breonna Taylor - Say Her Name

🕊 Name: Breonna Taylor
📅 Date of Death: March 13, 2020
🎂 Age: 26
📍 Location: Louisville, Kentucky

Who Was Breonna Taylor?

Breonna Taylor was a 26-year-old EMT and aspiring nurse with a bright future ahead of her. She dedicated her life to helping others, working on the front lines as a first responder during medical emergencies. Breonna was a daughter, a sister, and a friend—loved deeply by those who knew her. She had dreams of advancing in the medical field, building a life with her boyfriend, and making a difference in her community.

But on March 13, 2020, Breonna’s life was stolen in a senseless act of violence that shook the world.

What Happened to Breonna?

In the early hours of the morning, Breonna was asleep in her home when Louisville police officers executed a no-knock warrant as part of a drug investigation—one that had nothing to do with her. The officers forced entry into her apartment without warning, and in the chaos, her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, thinking they were intruders, fired a shot in self-defense.

Police responded with a hail of bullets, striking Breonna multiple times. She was unarmed, innocent, and never received medical assistance. She died in her own home—a place where she should have been safe.

The Aftermath & The Fight for Justice

Despite the tragedy, no officer was immediately charged for Breonna’s death. The police report was riddled with inaccuracies, and body camera footage was unavailable. It took months of protests, global outrage, and relentless activism before any action was taken.

In September 2020, a grand jury indicted only one officer—not for Breonna’s death, but for wanton endangerment of her neighbors. The lack of accountability sparked more anger and heartbreak, a painful reminder of the deep-rooted racial injustice in America’s legal system.

A Movement Was Strengthened

Breonna’s name became a rallying cry for justice, echoing across cities, social media, and protests worldwide. The #SayHerName movement gained momentum, ensuring that Black women affected by police violence are not forgotten in the fight for racial justice.

Breonna’s family, activists, and millions of supporters continue to demand real change—reforms in policing, the abolition of no-knock warrants, and justice for those wrongfully killed by law enforcement.
